You’ve obviously heard – and likely practiced – the idea of “faking it til you make it” when you were starting something new, feeling insecure, and noticing imposter syndrome creeping up within you.
Maybe you’re in the middle of “faking it til you make it” right now in your job or business?
Are you… tired yet?
I bet you are.
I don’t love ‘Fake It Til You Make It’ for you, or for any of us.
Because at its core is the idea that you’re an imposter. At its root is the belief that you don’t belong where you are, and that you must fake it to make it.
It’s an unhealthy narrative at its core.
Instead, here’s how to feel better, get better, and do better:
– Practice being yourself in your work, even if just in little ways in the beginning
– Identify then practice trusting your unique skills (hard + soft skills!)
– Give yourself a whole whack of space and compassion as you learn to get better at the things you don’t yet 100% know
You can be exactly right for the work you’re doing and not know every single thing there is to know. Give yourself space to learn.
Learn what you want your marketing to sound like.
Learn how to stand up for yourself in meetings.
Learn how to speak on camera.
Learn that new CRM the company just adopted.
You know what you need to have with you most when you learn to navigate these hard and new things?
Resilience. Courage. Self-trust.
Those skills will take you farther than faking it ever will.
No more faking, okay?
Instead, opt to learn, to trust, and to practice being yourself, even when it makes you want to run.
That’s where the deep-seated confidence you want lies.
