When clients feel really stuck, I often go looking for what rules exist that are keeping them stuck.
I’ll give you a personal example of my own stuckness: my newsletter.
Earlier this year, I could not find the flow – let alone the motivation I once had – to write it, even though I have hundreds of readers who open and read it weekly.
I realized, with thanks to my own Coach, that I had a ton of rules around writing it:
Every email has got to be valuable. And no more than 350 words. And include a tool in each email. And include a story too. And speak to everyone. And be relatable. AND AND AND….
My own self-imposed unconscious rules were making me stuck, and unsure, stagnant and stalled.
Business, work, and life feel harder when we’re under the thumb of our own unconscious, self-imposed rules.
What Your Rules Might Look Like
In business:
I have to post 5 times a week on social media.
I can’t make offers to people unless they ask me for help.
I have to hit a certain income metric before I can speak on a podcast.
In your job:
I need to know everything before I can give my input.
I shouldn’t challenge the way things are being done if everyone else likes it.
I should work evenings and weekends, it’s just what we do.
When you’re not working:
I need to be accomplishing something to use my time wisely.
I have to earn rest.
I should be getting things done around the house when I’m not working.
It’s our own rules that can attack our confidence and inner sense of calm, and we’re the ones doing it to ourselves!
The biggest, most profound step you can take to get unstuck here is knowing the answer to this question:
What rules have I created for myself when it comes to (specific area you want to focus on)?
When we know our rules, we can change them.
We can’t change what we can’t see.
Which rules will you let go of so you can have more freedom and flow?
